I dag er det gått nøyaktig to år siden Baby Doc for første gang returnerte til Haiti. 25 år tidligere forlot han sitt land og et nasjonalpalass i en sky av kokain, fiender i opprør og kaos i gatene. Vil Jean Claude Duvalier ta makta tilbake i Haiti? Og ble han egentlig noensinne kalt Baby Doc i Haiti?

12.01.2013, kl 18:06. Det er i skrivende stund tre år, en time og tretten minutter siden jordskjelvet sørget for at enda flere utlendinger fikk “arbeidssted Port-au-Prince” lagt til i CVen sin. Brakkefeber er snart like utbredt som kolera og utleieprisene i de kondisjonarte strøkene gjør ikke skam på selv den griskeste trønderske hushai. Mye er underlig her, spørsmålene er flere enn svarene. Mon tro hva Toussaint L’Ouverture ville tenkt om den internasjonale tilstedeværelsen i landet han i sin tid var med å frigjøre fra Frankrike.

Did Haiti’s troubles start with the earthquake? No, of course not.
By now most people will have discovered that there’s been all sorts of shaking going on for a couple of centuries allready on the western part of the Hispaniola. In this recording, Bill O´Neill speaks about the historical background, Papa Doc, general politics and the economic situation, the Haitian diaspora, the constitutional reform process, the Haiti-US relations etc. Allthough the focus was on the (then) coming elections, it might be of interest for anyone curious to learn a little bit more about Haiti.

Ahora todo el mundo sabe diferenciar entre Tahití y Haití.
Los profesores podemos incluir temas relacionados a Haití en nuestras clases para que los estudiantes se enteren. Aquí he adaptado ligeramente un comentario de Moisés Naím, publicado en El País el 17 de enero de este año, para usarlo en una clase de castellano, como un ejercicio de comprensión de texto y conversación.
